Privacy

The directory itself does not ask who you are. There are no ads, no analytics, and no third-party trackers. Pages are static files. Search runs in your browser.

Email alerts

If you ask to be emailed when a waitlist is marked open, we store only:

• Your email address
• The housing authority codes you asked about
• Timestamps for the request, the confirmation, an unsubscribe, or a bounce

We do not store your name, your address, or your IP address.

To slow abuse, we keep a salted hash of the network address for up to a day, then delete it. The hash cannot be turned back into the address without the secret, and we do not try.

You must click a link in the confirmation email. That link expires in 48 hours. Unconfirmed requests are deleted after 48 hours. We send at most one confirmation email to an address each hour, and an address can follow at most 25 housing authorities.

The form asks you to complete a Cloudflare Turnstile check so scripts cannot sign people up. Turnstile is bot protection, not advertising. Cloudflare’s own policy covers that check.

Open-waitlist mail comes from alerts.section8.fyi through Resend. A bounce or a spam complaint suppresses that address. Every alert has a one-click unsubscribe link.

The form always says to check your inbox. That way nobody can use it to find out whether an address is signed up.

Housing authority contact details

Phone numbers and email addresses on the housing authority pages come from HUD’s public directory. They are the authority’s published contacts, not a renter’s contacts.

Maps

The United States map, the state maps, and the office locator are drawings built into the page. They do not contact another website.

The map of housing authorities is the one page that loads map tiles. When that map is shown, your browser requests tiles from OpenFreeMap at tiles.openfreemap.org. Those tiles are made from OpenStreetMap data. The request carries the usual network address a browser sends. We do not add an account, a key, or your search, and the page does not ask where you are.

Open in Maps leaves this site. It opens the office’s street address, from HUD’s public directory, in a maps app. The link is omitted when HUD did not publish a street address.

Cookies

We do not set a cookie for the directory. Turnstile may set a cookie while you submit the alert form.
